ACIMIT Press Conference Underscores Italy’s Global Leadership and Expanding Presence in Asia

At a special press conference during ITMA ASIA + CITME Singapore 2025, the Association of Italian Textile Machinery Manufacturers (ACIMIT) spotlighted the resilience, technological innovation, and sustainability commitment that distinguish Italy’s textile machinery sector worldwide.

Jointly organized by ACIMIT and the Italian Trade Agency (ITA), the event gathered Italian exhibitors and media representatives to discuss market trends, export performance, and the growing importance of Asia for Italian textile technology.

Italian Trade Agency: “Singapore Is a Gateway to Asia’s Future”

Opening the session, Dr. Giorgio Calveri, Director of the Italian Trade Agency in Singapore, welcomed participants and commended the industry’s decision to return to Singapore after twenty years.

“This return highlights Singapore’s pivotal role as a gateway to Southeast Asia and beyond,” said Dr. Calveri. “The textile machinery sector perfectly embodies the Italian production model — export-oriented, innovative, and rooted in the ability to combine tradition with technology.”

He noted that Italy’s textile machinery output totals roughly €2.1 billion, with 85 percent exported worldwide. “Our manufacturers succeed because they design flexible, tailor-made machines suited to diverse markets and economic realities,” he added.

ACIMIT President: “Asia Remains Italy’s Top Market”

Delivering the keynote, Dr. Marco Salvade, President of ACIMIT, presented a comprehensive overview of Italy’s textile machinery industry, emphasizing its strong export orientation and dynamic engagement with Asia.

He reported that Italy exports 85% of its textile machinery production, valued at €1.8 billion, with Asia accounting for 44% of total exports. Major destinations include India, China, Turkey, the U.S., and Bangladesh, reaffirming the region’s strategic importance for Italian manufacturers.

ITMA ASIA + CITME Singapore provides another excellent opportunity for Italian manufacturers to showcase their updated technological supply,” Dr. Salvade said. “The choice of Singapore allows our exhibitors to engage with many Southeast Asian markets that are becoming increasingly important manufacturing hubs.”

He underlined that despite geopolitical uncertainties, the significant presence of Italian exhibitors in Singapore confirms the vitality of Italy’s textile machinery sector. “Visitors can explore a wide range of advanced solutions — from digitalization tools that enhance efficiency and connectivity to automation systems for smarter, more sustainable production,” Salvade explained.

He also highlighted Italy’s leading role in sustainable machinery development:
“Italian manufacturers are deeply committed to reducing environmental impact. Here in Singapore, we present machinery designed to optimize energy and water use, while ensuring the highest quality standards. This combination of tradition, innovation, and responsibility is what defines Made in Italy excellence.”

Over 100 Italian Exhibitors Showcase Cutting-Edge Technologies

Italy’s presence at ITMA ASIA + CITME Singapore 2025 is strong and strategic, with over 100 exhibitors occupying 4,000 square meters of exhibition space — representing nearly 30 percent of European participation under CEMATEX.

Italian participants are particularly prominent in finishing, weaving, and printing, demonstrating the country’s expertise in automation, optimization, and sustainable manufacturing.

ACIMIT’s Green Label – CLIMA Project: Driving Sustainability Forward

Dr. Salvade also emphasized ACIMIT’s Green Label – Clima Project, a voluntary certification program that evaluates and certifies the energy and environmental performance of textile machinery.

“Through Clima, manufacturers transparently declare energy and environmental data verified by RINA, an independent international body,” he said. “Over 50 ACIMIT member companies have already joined — demonstrating Italy’s leadership in sustainable industrial transformation.”

As ITMA ASIA + CITME Singapore 2025 continues, ACIMIT’s leadership reaffirmed its dedication to sustainability, digitalization, and global collaboration.

“Innovation, sustainability, and partnership — these are the values woven into every Italian machine,” Dr. Salvade concluded. “They are also the values that will define the textile industry’s next chapter.”
