King Abdullah Emphasizes Importance of Textile Industry in Employment and Economic Growth

His Majesty King Abdullah met with representatives of the textile industry on Tuesday at Al Husseiniya Palace, emphasizing the sector’s vital role in economic growth and employment.

The meeting focused on the progress of developing the textile industry in alignment with the Economic Modernisation Vision, according to a Royal Court statement. Discussions addressed ways to enhance vocational education to provide the textile industry with qualified workers, improve training programs for industry employees, and build their capacities, the statement said.

The textile industry is a significant contributor to employment in Jordan, providing jobs for 89,000 workers, 31 percent of whom are Jordanians. The sector also plays a key role in economic growth, adding JD756 million to the gross domestic product and accounting for 20 percent of the country’s industrial exports, with annual exports valued at JD1.4 billion.

Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh and Director of the Office of His Majesty Jafar Hassan attended the meeting, reinforcing the government’s commitment to supporting the textile industry’s role in boosting employment and economic development.

In his remarks, King Abdullah highlighted the importance of continuous improvement and innovation within the textile industry to maintain its competitive edge in the global market. He underscored the need for collaboration between the private sector and educational institutions to ensure a steady supply of skilled workers, capable of meeting the evolving demands of the industry.

The meeting also explored opportunities for expanding the textile industry’s export markets, enhancing product quality, and adopting sustainable practices. By focusing on these areas, the sector can further solidify its position as a cornerstone of Jordan’s economy and a major provider of employment.

King Abdullah’s engagement with the textile industry representatives reflects a broader strategy to enhance key economic sectors, drive sustainable growth, and improve job opportunities for Jordanians. The discussions marked a significant step towards realizing the goals outlined in the Economic Modernisation Vision, ensuring that the textile industry continues to thrive and contribute to the nation’s prosperity.
