The company’s story began with two hard-working Egyptian brothers, Mohamed and Mahmoud El-Nawawy. El-Nawawy brothers established El-Nawawy for Oil & Seeds company in 1971. The company first started as a flax seed crush mill to produce linseed oil and other linseed products.

Later, the El-Nawawy brothers began to work with the flax fibers. They started with the processing and trading of locally-grown raw flax fibers. With time, the business focus began shifting towards spinning flax fibers into yarn and twine. It was a natural transition given the company’s experience with flax products.
As the business continued to grow, they started to work with other natural fibers such as cotton, jute and hemp.
