Egypt conducts study on carpet industry support – Minister

Minister of Trade and Industry Nivine Gamea announced that an integrated study was prepared to upgrade the Egyptian carpet industry and raise its competitive edge at both local and foreign markets, according to a statement by the ministry on Thursday.

The study was conducted in cooperation with all bodies concerned and the private sector, represented in carpet production companies, chambers of industry and export councils, added Gamea in remarks while chairing the first meeting of the committee for supporting the carpet industry in Egypt, formed by the premier.

The ministries of finance, public business sector and international cooperation are included in the committee.

The committee is part of implementing the political leadership’s directives about developing the carpet industry, given the fact Egypt has big potentials to deepen this important industry, the minister mentioned.

Gamea said the carpet industry wins the confidence of consumers locally and externally.

Egypt’s exports of carpets increased over the past five years from 298 million dollars in 2016 to 340 million dollars in 2020, according to her.
