January to November 2019 saw Turkey export leather goods worth US $ 1.6 billion.
That’s a good number, which gives enough confidence to the country to reach its 2020 leather export target of US $ 2 billion.
The first 11 months of the current year also saw Turkey sell footwear to as many as 186 countries.
Besides, other leather goods were sold to 202 countries.
Speaking about the 2020 leather export target, Mustafa Senocak, Chairman, Istanbul Leather and Leather Products Exporters Association (IDMIB) stated “Turkey has the potential to surpass US $ 2 billion; however, the sector needs to be revived more.”
The Chairman added that leather apparel sales saw a rise in the USA, EU and the Far East during the period, but a fall in Russia.
It is important to note here that following the recent visit of a Turkish delegation to South Korea, the objective is now to increase the export to the latter by 3 times.
