Turkey, which exports 1.8 billion dollars worth of denim clothing products in 2022, is rapidly moving towards becoming the capital of denim with its premium quality products. Turkey is also the world’s 3rd largest producer of denim clothing after China and India, and is ahead of its competitors with its strong investments in recent years.

Turkey’s denim fabric exports amounted to 206 million dollars, in the January-October period of 2023. The most important country in denim fabric exports was Tunisia with 42 million dollars of exports and 20.5% share. Egypt ranked 2nd with 17.2% share and 36 million dollars worth of exports, while Morocco ranked 3rd with 9.7% share and 20 million dollars worth of exports.

Turkey ranks tenth among the countries that the US imports the most denim clothing from. According to OTEXA data, imports from Turkey amounted to 78 million dollars in 2022, up 16% compared to the previous year. Turkey’s share in US denim clothing imports was realized as 1.8%.”

European Union is Turkey’s Biggest Market for Denim Clothing Exports

Turkey’s largest and most important market in denim fabric exports is the European Union, with 72.5% of total denim fclothing exports going to EU countries in 2022. The leading EU countries in Turkey’s denim exports were Germany, Spain, the Netherlands, Denmark and France, respectively.

Turkey exported 341 million dollars to Germany in 2022 with an increase of 11.9% compared to the previous year. Turkey’s most significant increase in denim clothing exports was seen in exports to the US market, which is also the world’s largest denim market with 121.7%. As of the end of 2022, Turkey’s export unit price in the ready-to-wear and garment sector was recorded as $14.1/Kg, while this figure increased to $21.1/kg in denim clothing.

In the last five years, the highest export unit price in denim clothing was recorded as 24.4 $ / kg in 2018. The global denim jeans market is estimated to grow at an average annual rate of 4.3% between 2023 and 2030, from a market size of $128.3 billion by the end of 2022 to $179.7 billion by the end of 2030.

The US Imports the Most Denim Fabric From the 10th Country: Turkey

Turkey ranks 10th among the countries that the US imports the most denim clothing from. According to OTEXA data, imports from Turkey amounted to 78 million dollars in 2022, up 16% compared to the previous year. Turkey’s share in US denim clothing imports was realized as 1.8%.
