Tunisia: British boost for Tunisian textile as Brexit approaches and despite COVID

World-renowned trade and investment firm, OCO Global has announced that the company is partnering with the Professional Clothing Industry Association Worldwide (PCIAW) to host a unique webinar to promote the Buy Tunisian Textiles project funded by the British government. The webinar will take place on January 27.

PCIAW has invited speakers from the Tunisian government, OCO Global, Cepex Tunisia, Gerber Technology and Hunter Apparel.

PCIAW’s webinar week in November discussed the lack of resilience and diversification in supply chains highlighted by the pandemic and the need to nearshore manufacturing closer to home.

With 20 years of experience, OCO Global is trusted by the UK department for international trade (DIT) to promote Tunisia as a viable base for manufacturing high-quality workwear at reasonable prices.

“OCO are very excited to team-up with PCIAW to highlight and assist the opportunities Tunisia offers workwear suppliers. Tunisia’s talent with textiles spans centuries with significant expansion over the last 50 years with French, Italian, German and Belgian brands.

Businesses who work with Tunisian textile manufacturers always receive a warm welcome, their flexibility with minimum order quantities makes them a suitable fit for companies of all sizes.

We aim to strengthen ties between Tunisia, the UK and all PCIAW members to facilitate high-quality, nearshoring opportunities for the professional clothing industry,” Colin McCullagh, director of UK & Ireland, OCO Global, said in a press release.

“The PCIAW hears our members discuss the increasing trend towards nearshoring manufacturing and on this webinar with OCO Global, we will open the door to Tunisia, just a two-hour flight away, to access a wealth of talent in a timely opportunity, particularly for British and European businesses,” McCullagh said.

“We have had the pleasure of working with Cepex and the Tunisian government for many years and we are looking forward to re-establishing the relationship.

Tunisia has amazing infrastructure and people who have a talent and passion for textiles,” Yvette Ashby, founder and CEO of PCIAW, said.

“With Brexit on the horizon and sustainability in mind, businesses are apt to prepare contingencies and Tunisia could well be the solution to the challenges that they face.

French and Italian companies top the chart for textile trade with Tunisia and OCO Global along with PCIAW want to inform and encourage our members to follow suit.”

The textile sector is one of the largest employers in Tunisia, with over 161,000 workers and around 1600 companies ready for investment and business opportunity.
