The commercial history of Erkent family, which is among the oldest merchants and weavers of Gaziantep as Balat carpet, is based on 4 generations ago.
In 1940, Balat Carpet started to operate in the field of textile starting from the first generation with the production of kilims in hand looms. In 1961, it transformed into a factory from textile workshop and enlarged its investments in this field and firstly established yarn dyeing workshop in Istanbul and then weaving workshop in Gaziantep.
The name “BALAT” was inspired by the BALAT district of Istanbul where the business activity of the company started and BALAT name was given to the carpet factory established in Gaziantep and started to operate under this name. In 1964 the company evolved to a collective company and in 1983 it was transformed into a joint stock company. Today, in addition to carpet&yarn production, the company has also expanded its activities by investing in the paper sector. Balat Carpet is actively exporting its products more than 25 countries.

The founder of our company, the late M.Hayri ÖZKAYA (1937-2012), started his first business life in 1953 with the purchase and sale of peanuts.
He made his first export experience in 1964 with shipments to Aleppo and Damascus. As a result of his travels, the trade has advanced itself towards yarn trade, and in 1970, it has determined its new sector with yarn trading. In 1980, he established his first business as Gürteks Boya in Istanbul as paint and finishing, and brought his business life together with the manufacturing sector.
He moved the experience he gained in this sector to Gaziantep in 1987 and improved it by transforming it into an industrial investment. In 1992, Gürteks İplik handed over the flag to his sons, who did not leave him alone in his business life, and paved the way for new generations. It has become a company that produces the largest and highest quality yarn in Turkey with its experienced professional team. Beginning of 2013 Bonfort and Bayteks extrusion are both incorporated in BADE Dokuma Tekstil and a fully vertical integrated group with extrusion process (BCF,Heatset,Friese) and with a branch in Europe(Belgium).
