Interview with Ms.Annika Klar General Manager at Hannover Fair Turkey

DOMOTEX Turkey brought together industry leaders in Antalya between 10-13 July 2023. According to 2021 data, Turkey’s total carpet exports are $3.2 billion. The product groups of DOMOTEX Turkey are machine-made carpets and rugs; handmade carpets and rugs; textile floor coverings (wall to wall); resilient floor coverings; laminate, wood and parquet; fibers, yarns and woven fabrics; laying, cleaning and application technologies; artificial grass and sports flooring; machinery and flooring application and technologies.

We are currently conducting an interview with Ms. Annika Klar, General Manager of Hannover Fair Turkey, held at Domotex Turkey in Antalya this April. The event has attracted around 100 exhibitors from various countries, primarily from Iran and Turkey, with a notable presence from China and the United States.

In Antalya, our exhibitors are showcasing a wide range of products related to the carpet and floor covering sectors, with a particular emphasis on sustainability this year. Natural materials such as wood, silk, cotton, and bamboo have regained significant interest in the floor covering and carpet industry. The fair has garnered considerable attention from international visitors, underscoring its high level of global participation, including Turkish dealers and companies, as well as visitors from the Middle East, the United States, and other countries.

Regarding the Iranian exhibitors and the Middle East market, Ms. Klar expressed great satisfaction in hosting approximately 40 Iranian companies at Domotex Turkey. She commended the competitive and innovative nature of their products, which are designed to cater not only to the Middle East market but have also caught the attention of European buyers.

When asked about the choice of Antalya as the fair’s venue, Ms. Klar explained that the city offers several advantages, such as its pleasant surroundings near the sea and nature. Additionally, Antalya provides ample high-quality hotels at reasonable prices, all conveniently located close to the fairgrounds. The accessibility of the city, with a short distance from the airport and numerous international flight connections, further contributed to its selection as the preferred host location.

Regarding the carpet and flooring market post-Covid-19, Ms. Klar noted an intriguing trend where individuals have been investing more in decorating their homes due to extended periods spent indoors during lockdowns. This heightened demand for home improvement has continued, with an increased interest in both high-end and more affordable floor covering products worldwide. The Middle East, Turkmenistan, and Turk countries have seen a surge in demand, while Europe and the United States remain essential markets for these companies.

Looking ahead, the next major event in the industry will be the 2024 edition of Domotex in Hanover, which Ms. Klar described as a significant international gathering for the floor covering and carpet industry. The show attracts renowned European brands from countries like Belgium, the Netherlands, and Germany, as well as visitors from the United States, Europe, China, India, and the Middle East. Hanover serves as a platform for showcasing the latest trends and innovations, offering a glimpse into the future of the industry.

In conclusion, Ms. Annika Klar expressed her optimism about the successful closure of many deals during the fair, and she wished all participants a prosperous outcome.
