A new wave of corporate commitment is reshaping the fashion and packaging industries as 11 companies pledge to eliminate the use of Ancient and Endangered Forests in their textile and paper packaging supply chains. Among the latest to join non-profit Canopy’s CanopyStyle and Pack4Good initiatives are brands such as Boden, Nobis, Native Shoes, Bobo Choses, Finisterre, SMCP, and moodytiger. Their commitment underscores a growing dedication to protecting climate-critical forests and biodiversity while reducing environmental impact.
Joining them are Next Gen innovators Circulose, Palouse Fiber Packaging, and Medoola, companies that are pioneering sustainable alternatives by making packaging and viscose from recycled clothing, wheat straw, and food waste. Additionally, Checkpoint Systems, a major paper packaging producer, has also signed on to transform its sourcing practices.
As part of their sustainability policies, these companies are shifting towards low-impact, low-carbon, and circular Next Gen alternatives, such as recycled textiles and agricultural residues. This shift aims to drive systemic change in the industry by reducing dependence on forest-derived materials for packaging and fashion production.
The addition of these companies brings the CanopyStyle initiative to 578 brands, collectively representing $2.029 trillion in annual revenue, while Pack4Good has expanded to 466 brands, valued at over $341.4 billion.
This commitment comes at a crucial time, as demand for man-made cellulosic fiber (MMCF) textiles and paper packaging continues to surge. Each year, over 3.4 billion trees are logged for these materials. By scaling low-impact Next Gen solutions, businesses are not only ensuring resilient supply chains but also alleviating pressure on global forests—one of the most effective ways to combat climate change and protect biodiversity.
