Camira Print: Vintage Bedford Plaxton Coach

A 41-seater luxury coach from the 1970s, the Bedford Plaxton VJT307L, ran by York Pullman, is retro travel at its finest. With its original coachwork, it truly delivers a trip back in time for its passengers and is frequently used as transport for weddings and other special events.

However, following nearly fifty years of operation, the fabric featured on the Plaxton’s seats was in need of replacing – five decades of use had left it faded and worn, but its striking pattern was as beautiful as ever, and York Pullman was keen to ensure it was retained. With Camira Print, we were able to exactly replicate the design and colour of the original fabric, bringing a new lease of life to this much-loved coach.

An original woven design, faithfully recreated with Camira Print.

Ideal for heritage operators, Camira Print enables original textiles from decades past to be faithfully recreated with speed and ease. Nigel Vickers, Area Business Manager at Camira, explains, “Using a sample of the original fabric provided by York Pullman, we were able to develop and produce a Camira Print that exactly replicated the woven design in just three weeks. Vibrant and bold, the fabric is a blast from yesteryear – evoking the era in which it was originally designed and ensuring the Plaxton remains true to its 1970s roots.”

“The new upholstery has made the coach fully authentic to its original condition.”

With a minimum order quantity of just one roll, the flexibility of Camira Print means that operators can order the exact meterage required for a project. Drastically reducing cost and leadtimes, this low MOQ ensures that refurbishments are affordable, and able to be completed within a short timeframe.

Tom James, Managing Director at York Pullman Bus Company Ltd, comments, “We found the Camira Print process to be very easy! We were given clear indications of when the fabric would be available which enabled us to schedule the vehicle off the road – this is essential when the coach is used specifically for weddings and special events, some of which are booked a year or so in advance. The new upholstery has made the coach fully authentic to its original condition and has been very well received by our clients.”
