Embroidery has always been India’s forte of India. The rise in demand and the increasing complexities of embroidery patterns gave rise to the computerised embroidery machines. These machines made it possible to replicate complex artworks into embroidered designs and produce lookalike of hand embroidery. However, the recent shift in the trend has somewhere reduced the demand for embroidery in the market. But looking back, it has been found that fashion repeats itself and that’s where the embroidery suppliers see this as their strength and are very much positive about the market regaining its position in the near future. The suppliers in the market, therefore, have not stopped themselves from making efforts to regain the market position. They have the appropriate solutions and strategies intact that will help them maintain pace with the present challenge. This article will provide you fresh insights about the computerised embroidery solutions and the latest innovations in this field, besides updating you about what the suppliers are doing to cope with the present challenge.
Embroidery: India’s forte and strength
Computerised embroidery machines have been in the industry from quite some time, and these have not only simplified the tasks of the manufacturers but have also made it possible to convert almost any design into the desired format. The active participation of the technology suppliers have made it possible to bring many innovations in the technology that have evolved with time and trend. The leading domestic suppliers like Aura, Baba and Maya to name a few, are among the major suppliers of the industrial leading embroidery machine. Their strong R&D team and expert engineers have always responded positively to the changing demand of the customers.
Aura Technologies
Aura Technologies, one of the most trusted brands in computerised embroidery machines, was founded in 2005. Based in Delhi, the company has always been known for its cutting edge solutions and services for its clients. It has always broadened its solutions by not just focusing on the machines but also on the small solutions that the embroidery manufacturers need in the process. It has always kept track of the latest technologies and has bought innovations accordingly. Therefore, its product basket today includes technologies like embroidery machines, value addition machines, TRF, IOTA and Aura IOTA Embroidery Stitch Eraser.
The company already has state-of-the-art embroidery machines such as flat head, mix head and value addition machine. Apart from these, the company has launched few innovations such as IOTA and TRF. IOTA is Internet of things from Aura. The machines incorporating this technology help in real time monitoring and complete process visibility, reducing the chances of inaccuracy on the floor. The technology also helps in tracking the performance of the operators so that a proper training can be provided to them as per their precise requirements. Also, the system assists in automatic report generation for increased efficiency and productivity.
Moreover, as far as sustainability in embroidery is concerned, the company has taken a step forward and launched an economical eco-friendly embroidery solution TRF (Transferring Embroidery Pattern). This solution can save up to 25 per cent on total embroidery costing. The traditional water soluble methods require huge amount of water, but this concept uses heat instead of water to transfer the embroidery, thus eliminating the water requirement in the process. “The solution is a special polyethylene sheet which is used underneath the embroidery and when that sheet comes in contact with heat, it becomes powder which is further recyclable. The solution can be used with 60 percent of the fabric types and is best when used with mesh,” explained Deepak Chaudhary, CEO, Aura Technologies.
Another revolutionising innovation by the brand is their embroidery eraser, a machine that is used for erasing the embroidery. In case of an embroidery rejection due to a fault in the embroidery design, these machines can help with the erasing of the designs, so that the modification can be made without wasting the fabric. “Embroidery eraser is selling very well and people are very happy with the response. Our moto with the solution is just to help the manufacturers in a way that benefits them and the industry.” said Deepak. These erasers are helpful to rectify the errors that occur when doing embroidery on a large fabric. A small mistake sometimes results in discarding the whole fabric. These erasers helps the manufacturers to rectify the fault and therefore save a large amount of fabric from getting wasted.
With its basket full of these technological solutions, Aura Technologies has a strong customer base with companies like Shahi Exports, Orient Craft, Richa and Company, Richa Global etc., associated with it. Predicting and commenting on the future trend in embroidery, Deepak believes that ‘the future trend will be the glass beads which will remain in demand for another one year’. Keeping this in mind, they already are up with few value addition machines and are working on to bring many more solutions that fit to the customers’ present needs.
BABA Machines
With a huge portfolio of technologies such as computerised embroidery machines, rapier looms, laser cutting machines and many more, the company has a strong presence in the field of embroidery machines.
The four sequin embroidery machine used for garments like ladies suits, home furnishing, pillow cover is one of its latest innovations. The novelty of the machine is that it allows the embroidery to be done in four different colours. It has a maximum running speed of 1,200 RPM. The first needle of every head can work on single sequin of size 2mm-22mm and the last needle of every head can work on four sequins of sizes 2mm-9mm. “ The quality of our machine is that the thread breakage is minimum and therefore the production is high,” commented Murari Lal Parasurampuria, Founder, BABA Textile Machinery (India) Pvt. Ltd.
Baba technologies have solutions for the SMEs as well as the large producers of embroidery. Its HS-N1176/55-600-1520MM is a 88 Head and 176 Needle computerised embroidery machine. These machines are the most suitable for big orders as the number of heads makes it possible to achieve a bigger result in lesser time and cost. These machines are equipped with Japanese quality core parts like shuttle and bobbin case.Besides, they have a greater stability with their heavy body structure with Dahao electronic system and Swiss quality boring devices.
According to the company, the recent change in trend has shifted the customers’ preferences to weaving and knitted designs and the major order for embroidery has been shifted to sequins. This has become one of the major concerns for the embroidery machine manufacturers. Baba has already few solutions in its offering like its EF-N915/400-800-1200, a 15 Head Computerised Machine with single sequin and easy coding device. “We are adding more new value addition machines to our product category; we have also started digital printing and added many options to the embroidery like value addition and so on,” commented Murari.
Knowing the present market situation of embroidery, Baba has expanded its offering to printing solutions also. They believe that after embroidery, printing is something that is gaining the attention of the people. The company has come up with digital printing solutions such as VEGA 3000G that gives a daily output of 1,200-1,400 sqm (without camera) and 500-600 sqm (with camera). Other than this, they have VEGA 3180S, AJET 3 and EP 180 2 head sublimation printer.
To help the embroidery market, the company has lined up few strategies like it is planning to bring the 17 metre machine that is produced in China, to India. The big size of the machine will reduce the cost of embroidery manufacturing. However the machine’s large size has become an issue as the containers cannot accommodate this size. The size restriction has put the whole idea on hold and they are continuously working on to find a solution to that. “China has cheaper embroidery as the machines are big; we are planning to bring these machines to India, but the size has become a big challenge for us as containers can accommodate machines only upto 25 feets,” said Murari. “We are trying to save the embroidery market; we are trying to bring in whatever is new in the market and also we are trying to start machine manufacturing in India. We are in talking terms with other suppliers too as we are planning to do it in a collaboration. So, we are planning to set up a factory for manufacturing the body machine,” concluded Murari.
Apart from this the company has recently launched a machine that includes both digital printing and embroidery machine. The machine has received good response and quite a number of enquiries too. Predicting the market condition, Murari said, “The market will stay like this for another two years, and only after that, it will again regain its position. We are selling Jacquard looms right now as weaving sarees are in fashion. We don’t have competition but our customers have. So today the market is for sequence and Jacquard. We keep on researching about the market trends and keep working on that. ”

“The market is in its tough phase right now and the reason behind this is not confirmed. Few of them say that printing is something that is gaining momentum; Some say that Bangladesh is getting more orders we are not aware of. Now technology is available and it can be copied by anyone; so the challenge for us is that any one can copy any style. We are investing in other machines, but I am sure that embroidery market will bounce back soon,” commented Vineet Mitra, Founder, Maya.
Beside all these developments, the companies are expanding their product profiles to include many other options that meet the current changing demand of the customer. Also, they are forming few strategies that will be helping them cope with the challenge. Each and every player is very much positive about the market condition to be changing soon in favour of embroidery and hence, they are continuing making innovations that will revolutionise the embroidery market.
