Boosting the Middle East and African Textile Sector: Insights from Groz-Beckert

In recent years, the textile and garment industry has emerged as a pivotal contributor to the economies of many countries in the Middle East and Africa. This sector not only generates employment but also fosters economic development and industrialization. The geographical proximity of these regions to European markets enhances their potential for growth. With established producers expanding and new local production facilities emerging, European companies like Groz-Beckert are playing a crucial role in this transformation.

Through strategic partnerships, innovative solutions, and targeted support, these companies are helping to unlock the full potential of the textile industry in the Middle East and Africa.

How do European companies and organizations help to develop the Middle East and African textile sector?

In many countries, the textile and garment industry makes a significant contribution to the national economy and creates jobs. It can be a growth engine for economic development and pave the way for the industrialization of countries. An important factor for the development of the textile industry in the Middle East and Africa is its proximity to large consumer markets in Europe.

The regions have great potential for the textile industry. Established textile producers in the regions have expanded noticeably in recent years and more and more brand owners are looking into setting up their local production facilities. Groz-Beckert is represented locally with various trading partners in numerous countries in the regions in order to provide the best possible support for the growing textile industry with products, services and know-how. To this end, we work closely with our customers in the Middle East and Africa.

How do you evaluate Middle East and African potential in the textile sector?

Groz-Beckert sees great growth potential for the textile industry in the Middle East and Africa. The population is younger than average and is growing. As a result, the local consumer markets are also growing. The increasing awareness of the latest fashion trends among the younger generation is also helping to drive the textile clothing market forward. Due to the above-average young population, the potential of the labor market is also high.

In addition to the opportunities, there are also major challenges in some countries. These include, for example, a lack of qualified workers and poor infrastructure. It is therefore important that countries invest in the education and training of people, as well as in infrastructure and an open trade and investment policy.

What are “GROZ BECKERT ” solutions and suggestions for this region?

Groz-Beckert works closely with its customers and trading partners in the Middle East and Africa. In addition, we are constantly examining whether it makes sense to have representatives in other cities and regions in order to provide the best possible support for the growing local textile industry and offer individual services. We also offer numerous events in the region for this purpose. For example, various roadshows are planned for 2024 to present our products and services and work with potential customers to determine where else we can provide support.

The Middle East and Africa hold significant promise for the future of the textile industry, driven by a youthful and growing population, expanding consumer markets, and increasing fashion awareness. However, challenges such as a shortage of skilled workers and inadequate infrastructure need to be addressed. European companies, particularly Groz-Beckert, are at the forefront of this development, offering tailored solutions and investing in local partnerships and events to support the industry’s growth. By fostering education, infrastructure, and open trade policies, these collaborations are paving the way for a robust and sustainable textile sector in the region, promising economic growth and job creation for years to come.
