Iran’s Agrofood Exports to EAEU Surge, Led by Russia

Rouhollah Latifi, a senior official with the Central Organization for Rural Cooperatives of Iran, revealed on Sunday the significant role of agrofood products in Iran’s exports to the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). According to Latifi, agrofood items constituted approximately 42% of Iran’s exports to the five-member bloc during the period spanning from March 2023 to January 2024.

During this timeframe, Iran managed to export around 3.37 million metric tons (mt) of goods valued at $1.33 billion to EAEU states, indicating a notable increase of 19% in terms of tonnage and an 11% surge in terms of value compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.

Russia emerged as the primary destination for Iranian products within the EAEU, accounting for a substantial portion of the exports. Iranian exports to Russia totaled 1.82 million mt, valued at $760 million during the specified period. Following Russia, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan secured their positions as significant importers of Iranian goods within the EAEU, albeit with slightly lower volumes compared to Russia.

The robust performance of Iran’s agrofood sector in exports to the EAEU underscores the country’s strategic focus on enhancing trade ties with its regional partners. These positive export figures signify the competitiveness and quality of Iranian agricultural and food products in the international market, particularly within the EAEU member states.

As Iran continues to explore opportunities for economic cooperation and trade expansion, particularly within the EAEU framework, the significant growth in exports is a testament to the effectiveness of such endeavors. The continued strengthening of trade relations with EAEU countries, led by Russia, holds promising prospects for Iran’s economy, further bolstering its position in the global marketplace.

This surge in exports not only contributes to Iran’s economic growth but also fosters greater regional integration and collaboration, reflecting the mutual benefits derived from enhanced trade partnerships within the EAEU.

This significant milestone underscores Iran’s commitment to leveraging its agricultural and food production capabilities to drive economic growth and enhance its standing in the global trade arena.
