100% Turkish Cotton Period in Denim Fabric

Producing denim fabric for the world’s leading brands, Çalık Denim is preparing to use 100 percent domestic cotton in 2020 with an investment of 200 million dollars.

Founded 32 years ago in Malatya, Turkey’s Calik Denim of the largest exporters of denim fabric is preparing to use %100 per cent domestic cotton in 2020.  Having accomplished 200 million dollar worth of additional investment and has increased its’ production capacity doubled; Çalık Denim produce denim fabrics to a number of reputable brands such as Diesel, H&M, Replay, G-Star, Tommy Hilfiger, Pepe Jeans, Topshop, River Island, M&S, Joe’s Jeans, Banana Republic, Zara, Gap, Blue and Colin’s.

Turkey is the first Preference

Çalık Denim uses BCI certified Turkish and American cotton in its production. Çalık Denim exhibited its new products at the Kingspins Show Amsterdam Fair in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, which brings together the world’s leading denim manufacturers. Çalık Denim General Manager Fatih Doğan that organized the “Ever Evoling Talks by Calik Denim” event well before the commencement of the fair said that Turkey can be ranked amongst the world’s fourth exporter of the denim fabric and continues his words as follows; “We are providing the fabric to garment manufacturers that is responsible for the production and mutual agreements between brands. In recent years, Tunisia, Egypt, Vietnam and Bangladesh have engaged in the production of brands and these trends justify that Turkey has become the major preference and this makes us happy. In our new technology production facilities, we do pioneering works to invest in R & D.’’

Farmer Training Support

Doğan stated that they produced 34 million meters of denim fabric in the first 9 months of 2019 and have made a difference in the sector by producing the most ecological denim fabric in recent years. According to the information given by Dogan, Turkey has a total demand of 1.5 million tons of cotton. In recent years, the total production capacity of the GAP project has approached around 1 million tons, but 700 thousand tons of cotton can be used due to productivity. Çalık Denim imports 50 percent of its cotton. Çalık Denim, who bought 300-400 thousand tons of cotton from the USA, has started to work with cotton producer farmers under the leadership of Mahmut Can Çalık for the last 3 years. Doğan said; ‘’We provide training to farmers. We’re going to start licensed warehousing. We refer to the good seeds in production activities. Supply of the every denim fabrics’ cotton from Turkey is amongst the main targets in 2020-2021. We believe that we will achieve this. ”

180 Projects Implemented

Çalık Denim ranked amongst first thousand exporters with the three hundred twenty one placement in  2018 and ranked eleventh amongst the textile exporters. Çalık Denim employs two thousand two hundred workers and one hundred and eighty thousand projects have been conducted at Research and Development (R&D) facilities until today.
