Kilis, a small province in southeastern Turkey, is set to become a regional hub for textile production with the establishment of Tekstilkent, a new industrial base expected to create 2,500 jobs. Supported by the Industry and Technology Ministry, the project is designed to address the region’s high unemployment rates and enhance its industrial capacity.
Spanning 43,000 square meters, Tekstilkent will be built with an investment of TL 13.5 million. The initiative, welcomed by local residents, was formalized last week through a protocol signed by the Ipekyolu Development Agency (IKA) and Kilis Organized Industrial Zone (OIZ) administration.
Industry and Technology Minister Mustafa Varank, who attended the signing ceremony, highlighted the project’s transformative potential. “Two factory buildings, each with 10,000 square meters of covered area, will be allocated to investors. This marks a significant step for Kilis’ industrialization,” he said.
The project aims to attract textile brands to the region, creating opportunities particularly for young people and women. Hacı Mustafa Celkanlı, Chairperson of the Kilis Chamber of Commerce and Industry, described the initiative as a turning point for the city.
“This is a region with high unemployment. Tekstilkent and other industrialization efforts like the Polatlı-Şahinbey OIZ are poised to change the future of Kilis and its residents,” Celkanlı said.
Tekstilkent is expected to foster economic growth and position Kilis as a key player in Turkey’s textile sector.
