Alejandro Gallego Alcaide, Director of the Spanish Textile Machinery Manufacturers Association (AMEC), recently shared insights into the mission and vision of Spanish textile machinery manufacturers during the ITMA Asia + CITME 2024 exhibition. With a membership of around 45 companies, AMEC aims to connect textile technology manufacturers with textile producers to foster innovative solutions and drive advancements in the industry.
In his address, Alcaide emphasized the association’s role as an umbrella organization covering various sectors, including textile machinery, packaging technology, food processing, and plastics. “Our primary goal is to bridge the gap between manufacturers and textile producers, facilitating collaboration that leads to the development of cutting-edge technologies,” he stated.
One of the focal points of the discussion was the increasing importance of sustainability within the textile industry. Alcaide noted that many member companies are dedicated to creating technologies that reduce environmental impact. For instance, Genealogia, a prominent member, has developed innovative solutions for denim finishing that significantly decrease water usage, showcasing the commitment of Spanish manufacturers to sustainable practices.
Alcaide also highlighted the impact of artificial intelligence on textile manufacturing processes. “Our members are leveraging AI to optimize production and enhance efficiency. For example, Arachna develops software that predicts the final quality of fabric before it even enters the knitting machine,” he explained. This proactive approach to technology not only improves production outcomes but also helps manufacturers maintain competitiveness in a rapidly evolving market.
As part of their strategy, AMEC is focused on addressing the changing dynamics of skilled labor in the textile sector. Alcaide emphasized the need for member companies to adapt to these changes, ensuring that they remain at the forefront of industry advancements. “We are working closely with our members to develop training programs and resources that align with the new demands of the workforce,” he added.
At ITMA Asia + CITME 2024, Spanish exhibitors showcased a diverse array of technologies across various sub-sectors, including spinning, weaving, and finishing. Alcaide noted that the presence of Spanish technology is vital for addressing key industry challenges, such as digitalization and resource efficiency. “Our aim is to provide our members with the tools they need to succeed in a competitive landscape,” he said.
Looking forward, AMEC plans to participate in future exhibitions, including the upcoming event in Singapore in 2025. Alcaide expressed optimism about the potential for expanding into emerging markets in Southeast Asia and the Middle East. “These regions represent significant opportunities for growth, and we are committed to ensuring our members are well-positioned to meet the challenges and demands of these markets,” he stated.
In conclusion, AMEC remains dedicated to promoting Spanish textile technology on an international stage, fostering innovation, and supporting sustainable practices within the industry. “Our members are not just participants in the industry; they are leaders in innovation, and we are excited about what the future holds,” Alcaide remarked.
