Kohan Textile Journal: First of all Could you please let us know about SARTEKS and its range of products?

We entered the textile production industry in 1988 and have been producing various fabrics for about 35 years. We currently have two factories for fabric production, dyeing and printing, and offer a wide range of fabrics in various colors and patterns to the market. Our daily production capacity is 40 tons of fabric, and our monthly production capacity is about 1,200 tons of fabric.
Our production mainly focuses on circular knitted cotton and cotton-polyester fabrics. We also produce modal, modal-cotton, tensile, and 100% recycled fiber fabrics.

SARTEKS is an export-oriented company and has its own fabric warehouses in Italy, Russia, Kyrgyzstan, and Morocco, which enables us to quickly supply the markets and neighboring countries. We also have export markets in Greece, Tunisia, Algeria, Egypt, Ukraine, Iran, and other countries and are striving to increase our market volume and discover new markets.

SARTEKS is a well-known and reputable brand in the markets where it operates, and the company continues to strive to maintain its position.

SARTEKS has always aimed to be more than just a fabric supplier, providing customers with services that help them grow and progress in the market, which in turn helps SARTEKS to grow even further. To this end, the company is always working on developing new and innovative products in the research and development department, and in the fashion and style sector, they are constantly working on new colors and collections, working with their customers to create exactly what they need.

Approximately 30% of SARTEKS’s required raw materials are imported from outside of Turkey, and the remaining 70% are produced within Turkey.

International Certificates and standards by Sarteks

SARTEKS has recognized the prerequisite of customers and the market for environmentally friendly fabrics, recycled and organic fabrics, especially in the European and American markets many years ago. To create a sense of confidence in customers and participate in the environmentally friendly production cycle, the company has taken steps to obtain the necessary international certifications.

For more than twenty years, SARTEKS has produced under the OEKO-TEX standard, and recently, we have obtained certificates for organic production, BCI, and the production of recycled fabrics. Today, leading global clothing brands such as Zara, H&M, Inditex Group, and others have serious requests to purchase organic and recycled fabrics, which will shape the market. Today, more than 50% of SARTEKS’s production is moving in this direction.

In addition, SARTEKS is currently establishing a solar energy production unit using solar panels, and we hope to be able to supply close to 100% of the factory’s required energy from clean and solar energy sources in the next few years, a significant step towards producing environmentally friendly products.

As a large fabric manufacturer that is almost at the beginning of garment production journey, SARTEKS believes that it can play an important role in shaping the future of the textile industry, and they are committed to doing so in an environmentally friendly and sustainable manner.

Kohanjournal: What is the situation of other Turkish fabric producers in the field of organic and environmentally friendly production?

It can be said that all Turkish companies that are export-oriented and work with European and American customers have either already obtained standard certifications or are in the process of obtaining them because it is a requirement for market entry and customer satisfaction. Alternatively, you can produce according to customer requirements, or you will be eliminated from the competitive market.  In general, Turkish companies have a good situation in this regard.

Kohan Textile Journal: What are the reasons for the increase in exports of Turkish textile products in recent years?

In my opinion, government policies in this area have been effective, and we have had good incentive policies. Also, the increase in the exchange rate of the dollar in Turkey has ultimately been in favor of exporters, although the value of the Turkish currency has generally faced a severe decline, causing inflation, high prices, and making life difficult for ordinary people.

However, producing and exporting companies can save production and employment from bankruptcy by increasing exports and have foreign exchange income for the country.

I hope that with economic reforms, a balance will be created between the national currency and foreign exchange rates so that both textile production and exports can thrive, and economic pressure can be relieved from ordinary people.

Also, we should not forget that the textile industry in Turkey has had considerable growth since the 1970s, and we have always been witnesses to suitable growth of production, investment, and exports, and are recognized as a leading country and style owner in the world textile industry.

Turkish producers have unique cultural, taste, and logistical advantages in European markets.

Our new products are delivered to customers in the heart of Europe in our warehouses in two or three days, while China and other Asian countries do not have such a possibility. This is especially important for trendy fabrics with new designs suitable for fast fashion, and competition in this field is not impossible for Chinese fabric Manufacturers. with all these reasons the increasing growth of Turkey’s exports is not surprising.

Kohan Textile Journal: What is your opinion about Texhibition Istanbul?

Texhibition Istanbul, as a major exhibition in the textile and accessory sector in Turkey, is quickly becoming a unique event that will play an important role in the growth of textile exports in Turkey.

SARTEKS has been present at this event from the beginning and we have felt the growth and movement of this event very well. In my opinion, this exhibition has a short way to go to become a fully international event, but this year, thanks to the good advertising programs of the organizers, a wide range of visitors and foreign buying delegations visited the exhibition. We had good visitors, especially from the Middle East and Iran.

Turkish companies have a very high demand for participation in this event and I think that the number of foreign companies will also increase in future events. Certainly, the presence of Chinese companies that are specialized in producing cheap polyester fabrics will create challenges for Turkish producers, but the advantages of a competitive exhibition always outweigh its disadvantages.

In the cotton fabric section, India, Egypt, and Uzbekistan can also be serious competitors for Turkish fabric producers. To have an excellent exhibition in the world-class, the presence of all competing and well-known countries is essential.
