Oerlikon: Sustainable Solutions and Digital Innovation Power Growth in a Changing Textile Market

Interview with Mr. Andre Wissenberg – Oerlikon Group at ITM 2024

Oerlikon’s Broad Portfolio and Sustainable Practices

Oerlikon boasts a comprehensive portfolio for producing polyester, polypropylene, nylon, and other materials in a highly sustainable manner. Since 2004, Oerlikon has pioneered sustainability with the development of the eSafe program. Over the years, the company has optimized technologies for various applications including POI, FDI, DTY, IDY, industrial yarn, PCF solutions, staple fiber, and nonwoven.

This commitment to sustainability is showcased at the ITM in Istanbul, Turkey, where Oerlikon presents energy-efficient technologies that help customers save money and produce high-quality homogeneous yarn. The ITM is a significant event, attracting attendees from Turkey, the Middle East, Syria, India, Africa, and Egypt, allowing Oerlikon to engage with a diverse and important market.

Evaluating the Global Textile Market

The global textile market is currently facing challenges. China, a dominant player in the chemical fiber industry, is experiencing a slowdown in investment, leading to the rise of other markets such as India, Turkey, and various African countries. Despite a recent decline in the chemical fiber industry, there is an increasing number of potential projects, and Oerlikon is optimistic about securing new contracts at ITM 2024. The company remains committed to sustainability, recognizing its importance in the current market environment.

Oerlikon’s Commitment to Sustainability and Energy Saving

Oerlikon has been dedicated to sustainability for nearly two decades through its eSafe program, focusing on creating highly efficient machinery. This initiative has led to a significant reduction in CO2 emissions, enhancing the environmental impact of Oerlikon’s products. The company also emphasizes the economics of machinery, aiming to make operations more cost-effective and user-friendly. Oerlikon’s large-scale plants, such as those producing up to 1,200 tonnes of polyester per day, require advanced digital solutions to ensure efficient control and operation.

Oerlikon and Digitalization

Digitalization is a cornerstone of Oerlikon’s approach, and the company has been providing advanced software solutions for plant operations. At ITM 2024, Oerlikon introduces Atmos.Io, a new software platform that collects and analyzes data to optimize plant operations and enable predictive maintenance. This digital strategy helps customers reduce energy costs, improve operational efficiency, and achieve greater success in their businesses.

Numerous Textile Exhibitions Worldwide

Textile exhibitions like ITM are crucial platforms for networking and showcasing innovations. While frequent exhibitions can be costly, they offer valuable opportunities to maintain customer relationships and discuss industry developments. Oerlikon acknowledges that constant innovation is challenging, but participating in exhibitions remains important for staying connected with customers and identifying new business opportunities. Looking ahead to ITMA 2027 in Hannover, Oerlikon is optimistic about presenting new innovations and welcoming attendees to their home region in Germany.
