Two Italian excellences that intiate a collaboration in the name of sustainability

Manifattura Italiana Cucirini (MIC) and Candiani: two Italian excellences that intiate a collaboration in the name of sustainability

Custom-made, eco-sustainable and biodegradable jeans come to life in Milan.

Sustainability is a much-discussed issue in the textile industry today as it becomes a priority and a challenge that involves all the players in the supply chain. The textile sector is experiencing a real turning point, among important investments in the research and development of new solutions in the name of sustainability: innovative fabrics and new processing methods for the protection of the environment.

Following this trend, aiming to create sustainable clothing, the collaboration between Manifattura Italiana Cucirini and Candiani started. At Candiani Custom, a nice boutique in the centre of Milan, it will be possible to create customized ethical, biodegradable, and compostable premium denim pants and clothings.

The first micro-factory where tailor-made jeans are packaged, treated, and washed on site by artisans, with the use of the most sustainable denim canvas by Candiani and the most advanced technology: a unique experience in the world.

The fundamental pillars of Candiani Custom are customization, transparency, sustainability, technology, and Made in Italy. Every single pair of jeans are produced only on request: the customer is the center of the project, becoming a designer and configuring his own garment in every detail.

An engaging experience that aims to awaken or discover enthusiasm for issues such as quality, sustainability, local production, direct relationship with the world of manufacturing. Thanks to the use of the latest textile innovations patented by Candiani Denim, starting from the COREVA bio stretch fabric, Candiani Custom can makes the world’s first 100% biodegradable and compostable jeans. This is real evidence of the circular economy and total traceability of the supply chain.

The project involves several Italian companies of the small and medium industry, leaders of their respective sectors including Manifattura Italiana Cucirini based next to Verona, an expression of over 100 years of history in the production of innovative yarns for the textile and fashion industry.

The absolute protagonist of this partnership, between MIC and Candiani, is MEGAFLEX: natural yarn made from wood pulp from controlled forests, made from 100% TENCELTM by Lenzing AG. The great resistance and hygroscopicity, together with the natural biodegradability and dyeability similar to cotton, make this fiber ideal for environmentally and man-friendly productions mainly in the areas of denim, knitwear, and underwear.

Thanks to the high quality of the materials used, the yarn MEGAFLEX has obtained the Standard 100 certification of OEKO-TEX Class I, the most restrictive, which ensures compliance with the legal requirements of textile products tested.

The Company, which has always been innovative and revolutionary, has decided to move towards an increasingly sustainable approach, becoming one of the main players in the green plan adhering to the 4sustainability® roadmap.A real way towards sustainability that will allow Manifattura Italiana Cucirini to be more and more compliant with the MRSL ZDHC and specific Sdgs (Sustainable Development Goals), ensuring a better quality of wastewater, a reduction in water and energy consumption, and a reduction in CO2 emissions in the atmosphere, improving partnerships with specialized companies.
