China gets a huge boost in textile export , all thanks to face masks!

The General Administration of Customs of People’s Republic of China has released the textile and apparel export statistics of the country during Jan.-May ’20 period and the data of textile exports is overwhelming!

According to the compilation done by the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Textile and Apparel, China has seen a huge surge of 20.8 per cent on Y-o-Y basis in its textile exports which valued at US $ 58.40 billion.

Of all exporting destinations, China upped its exports of textiles in 7 countries in top 10: USA – US $ 8.89 billion (up 82.2 per cent); Japan – US $ 3.83 billion (up 116.5 per cent); Germany – US $ 3.47 billion (up 277.4 per cent); France – US $ 1.96 billion (up 432.6 per cent); UK – US $ 1.33 billion (70.8 per cent); Italy – US $ 1.29 billion (up 55.4 per cent); and Korea – US $ 1.25 billion (up 7.7 per cent).

The remaining three countries in top 10 were Vietnam (US $ 4.12 billion), Bangladesh (US $ 2.14 billion) and Indonesia (US $ 1.21 billion) which fell in their respective imports of textiles from China by 15.7 per cent, 21.2 per cent and 25.8 per cent, respectively.

This massive surge of Chinese textile exports in double-digit and triple-digits indicates the shipment of face masks rapidly grew during the Jan.-May ’20 period, as confirmed by Customs.

EU, as a whole bloc, saw a surge of 133.8 per cent to import US $ 13.32 billion of textile products from China which is the largest value imported by any of the group of the countries during the period.

The statistics were not encouraging for the Chinese garment exporters as the apparel exports in the review period were down drastically by 23 per cent and valued at US $ 39.51 billion.
