Arab Influence Out In Force For Paris Fashion Week 2020

At Paris Fashion Week 2020, Arab celebrities such as Rami Malek, film makers such as Mohammed Al-Turki, and social media influencers such as Karen Wazen, Nathalie Fanj and Leena Al-Ghouti were spotted sat in the front row of a number of the most-anticipated catwalk shows.

The Arab world was also represented on the catwalk, with Saudi designer, Honayda Serafi, unveiling her “Divine from The Desert” collection. Her latest creations were inspired by ancient warrior Queen Dihya, who left her mark on the history of civilization during the 7th century.

Serafi incorporated natural colors representing the sky and orange sand in different shades, expressing power, cultural roots and strength. Metallic threads, luring satin and sequenced tulle reflected the costumes of the African Amazigh ethnic group, enhanced by elements of wood shaping and accessories.

Honayda Serafi was ranked #47 on Forbes Middle East’s list of 100 Women Behind Middle Eastern Brands in 2019. She revealed that her designs are inspired by women in a persistent quest for empowerment.

Armed with just $30,000 that she retrieved from her savings—Serafi fended off offers of monetary assistance from her husband and wider family—she set up her label in 2017 with just two employees. Since then, stars that have been seen rocking Honayda’s collections include Black Panther star Lupita Nyong’o, rapper Eve, and Olympic skater, Lindsey Vonn, propelling the designer into the limelight.

Another Middle Eastern designer, Marzook, also showcased his Sunset collection at Paris Fashion Week 2020. Known for his inspirational designs including bags and accessories, his latest designs mirror the patterns and colors of the fading sun.
