GOTS collaborates on efforts to fight greenwashing in industry

A 2021 survey by the European Commission focused on companies claiming to sell environmentally friendly products found that 42 percent of the statements regarding those products were ‘exaggerated, false or deceptive’ and would be considered greenwashing .

To combat the confusion, the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM), of which GOTS is a member, recently released a position paper aimed at establishing an industry standard for the use of the word ‘organic’ in the marketing and promotion of goods.

The paper, titled ‘Organic textiles, Protecting the credibility of the organic label’ was a collaborative effort between IFOAM and other organisations, including Herbert Ladwig, GOTS Policy and Legal Advisor and Christopher Stopes, GOTS Representative in UK and Representative to the EU (Institutions).
