Egypt will establish the world’s largest textile factory in al-Mahalla al-Kobra in the Gharbiya governorate, minister of manpower and public business sector Hisham Tawfiq announced recently. This is part of a plan to establish four new factories in addition to setting up 10 new gins. A new, more efficient cotton gin was installed in Fayoum, he said.
Tawfiq announced this in a meeting with representatives of the Mahalla Spinning and Weaving Company’s workers. LE21 billion will be pumped to develop the textile industry, An Egyptian newspaper quoted the minister as saying.
Tawfiq announced in October last year that a comprehensive development plan for the spinning and weaving industry within the ministry’s companies will be implemented over three years.
The plan includes the development of cotton spinning companies through weaving, dyeing, and processing, Tawfiq added.
