Uzbekistan’s Textile Industry Takes Stride Towards Innovation in Talks with Itema Group President

In a significant development for Uzbekistan‘s textile industry, negotiations were held on 20 October at the Uztekstilprom association with Ugo Gilardi, the President of Itema Group, a leading global supplier of advanced textile machinery solutions.

Itema, a prominent Italian conglomerate, ranks among the world’s largest manufacturers of textile machinery, serving markets across more than 100 countries. The company reported an impressive revenue of US$306 million at the close of 2022.

Ugo Gilardi’s visit to Uzbekistan followed a reciprocal visit by the Head of State to Italy earlier this year. During his trip, the foreign partner expressed admiration for the progress made in Uzbek textiles. He underscored the importance of Uzbekistan venturing into the production of equipment for finished products with high added value, including textiles and technical fabrics.

In response to this vision, the negotiations delved into several key areas, including the potential relocation of projects for weaving equipment and components to Uzbekistan, the incorporation of innovative technologies, the establishment of a service center and local company representative offices, and the provision of advanced training opportunities for Uzbek specialists.

The discussions culminated in a mutual agreement to dispatch Italian specialists to Uzbekistan for in-depth marketing research. This collaborative endeavor signals a promising step forward in the Uzbek textile sector’s ongoing efforts to expand its capabilities and contribute to the global textile industry.

As Uzbekistan continues to embrace innovative solutions and forge international partnerships, these negotiations with Itema Group serve as a testament to the nation’s commitment to advancing its textile sector and fostering economic growth through strategic collaborations. The future looks bright for Uzbekistan’s textile industry as it enters into this exciting phase of development.
