Uzbekistan and Spain Forge Stronger Ties in Textile Industry Collaboration

Uzbekistan and Spain are set to strengthen their collaboration in the textile sector, with plans for joint ventures and participation in upcoming expos. A business delegation from Uzbekistan, including representatives from the Ministry of Investments, Industry, and Trade and key textile industry leaders, recently visited Madrid for a series of high-level meetings with major Spanish firms.

The Uzbek delegation presented the latest reforms in Uzbekistan’s textile industry, highlighting the export potential of local producers. They also showcased catalogs and product samples to illustrate the quality and diversity of Uzbek textiles.

In a significant development, during talks with Alejandro Pastrana, CEO of Gedepsa, agreements were reached to establish a trade house in Madrid dedicated to promoting Uzbek textile products. This initiative will serve as a gateway for Uzbek textiles to enter the Spanish market. Additionally, both parties agreed to develop pilot projects to test and refine these products for Spanish consumers.

Further negotiations with international consultant Albert Hernandez focused on strategies for logistics, distribution, and broader market penetration for Uzbek textiles in Spain. Hernandez expressed a strong commitment to assisting in establishing connections with leading Spanish fashion companies and facilitating Uzbek producers’ participation in competitive tenders across Spain.

Moreover, discussions with the global procurement teams of prominent retail chains El Corte Inglés and Tendam explored the potential for integrating Uzbek textile products into their offerings. The Uzbek delegation emphasized the country’s compliance with international standards and the advantages of exporting under the “GSP+” system, which grants preferential access to the European Union market.

Following these productive meetings, Spanish companies have shown a keen interest in collaborating with Uzbek partners and are eager to participate in international textile exhibitions scheduled in Uzbekistan for the fall of 2024. This collaboration marks a significant step forward in strengthening economic ties between Uzbekistan and Spain in the textile industry.
