İstanbul Chamber of Commerce (İTO) President Şekib Avdagiç said: “In 2024, recycling products will take a larger place in the market. The qualities of products made by Turkish companies will become more sustainable in 2024. This will strengthen their presence as a serious actor in production and market.”
sekib Avdagiç, President of İstanbul Chamber of Commerce (İTO), evaluated the situation of the textile industry and Turkish manufacturers and talked about the global textile and ready-to-wear market projections in 2024. Here are the highlights of Avdagiç’s statements:
Expressing the qualities of Turkish textile manufacturers, Avdagiç said, “I can say that the most important distinguishing quality of Turkish textile manufacturers is that they have the ability and capacity to deliver high quality products to the world market at an affordable cost and fast. This process began when our textile sector discovered its long-standing capabilities again with the export-oriented production approach that started after 1980. Turkey gained strong know-how and experience until the 2000’s. With this experience, they rose to the top ranks worldwide in the production of yarn and textile products.
“TURKEY’S STRONG LOGISTICS NETWORK ENABLES THE SECTOR TO DEVELOP”
Mentioning the points that contributed to the development of the sector, Avdagiç said: “Educated entrepreneurs and managers who are knowledgeable in strategic marketing techniques have carried the textile industry to the international league not only with quality products but also with branding successes. When human power combined with design power, the sector developed rapidly. As the advantage of proximity to large markets was added to this, the development and rise gained momentum. Proximity to the market ensured that ordered products could be on the market within a few days after leaving the factory. Turkey’s economic and strong logistics network with strong land, sea and air integration also contributed positively to the development of the sector.”
“WE ARE REQUIRED TO GIVE UP ALL KINDS OF PRODUCTION THAT CAUSE GLOBAL WARMING”
Stating that Turkey experienced significant changes in the textile sector in 2023, Avdagiç said: “Let me underline right away that the most important change today will come about through “realizing green transformation”. As it is known, it has become a necessity for the textile industry to adopt a style that does not pollute the environment and does not cause climate change in the production of raw materials used in production, especially fabrics. The reason for this is that the world is no longer a habitable place and unfortunately we don’t have another world.
Therefore, we are reqired to give up all kinds of production that coause to global warming. The textile industry’s support for every effort to reduce its carbon footprint will both reflect positively on our competitiveness and carry Turkey forward in global competition. One of the main challenges of the sector is its dependence on other sectors. For example, new machinery and equipment that will bring high technology and therefore higher quality production to textiles is one of them…
Proximity to the market ensured that ordered products could be on the market within a few days after leaving the factory. Turkey’s economic and strong logistics network with strong land, sea and air integration also contributed positively to the development of the sector.”
However, limited machinery production is an important challenge for the sector… Secondly, getting a share in the world textile market due to increasing global competition causes the bread to literally land in the lion’s stomach. Finally, we can say that the economic fluctuations experienced in the world and in our country along with the pandemic also put a strain on companies in terms of capital.”
“THE QUALITIES OF TURKISH COMPANIES’ PRODUCTS WILL BE COMPATIBLE WITH SUSTAINABILITY IN 2024”
Explaining his expectations for 2024 with the global textile and ready-towear market, Avdagiç used the following expressions: “The future of the market will be determined by those who can keep up with the green transformation and digital transformation called twin transformation and those who ensure sustainability for human and nature. In other words, we will realize once again in 2024 that continuity in production and exports will only be possible with a green production approach.
As a locomotive sector, our textile and ready-to-wear sector will expand and consolidate its position in the global market as it establishes an environmentally friendly, nature-friendly, human-friendly production approach.” Avdagiç concluded his words as follows:
“As you know, the EU will complete the transition to a circular economy by 2050 with the European Green Deal project launched in 2019. Therefore, a market consisting of recycled products, especially global brands, will emerge. As of 2024, recycled products will have a larger share in the market.
The qualities of Turkish companies’ products will become greener and more compatible with sustainability in 2024. This will strengthen their presence as a serious actor in production and the market.”
