CETTEX Marks 30 Years of Textile Testing, Sets Sights on Global Market Expansion

The Centre Technique du Textile (CETTEX), Tunisia’s leading textile technical center, is celebrating nearly 30 years of excellence in textile testing and advisory services, while unveiling an ambitious roadmap to expand its international presence.

Established in 1991 and operating under the supervision of the Tunisian Ministry of Industry and SMEs, CETTEX plays a vital role in supporting the country’s textile and clothing sector. The public organization provides a full suite of services, including technical consultancy, laboratory testing, research and development, and professional training for manufacturers.

Since 1995, CETTEX has relied on textile testing equipment from UK-based James Heal, a partnership that General Manager Mr. Mohsen Missaoui describes as instrumental to the lab’s consistent delivery of high-quality testing services. “We chose James Heal instruments for their quality and robustness. They last so well over time,” said Mr. Missaoui. “The expertise of their engineers and the ongoing support they provide is unmatched.”
Today, CETTEX operates ISO-accredited labs performing more than 100 types of physical and chemical tests on fibers, yarns, fabrics, and accessories for prestigious clients including Levi’s Dockers, CELIO, Next, and TUNAC.

From Domestic to Global Ambitions

While CETTEX has long catered to domestic manufacturers, the team recognized the need to align with the increasingly export-oriented Tunisian textile industry. With backing from the Ministry and European partners, CETTEX conducted international market research to identify opportunities for expanding its testing services abroad.

“Our ultimate vision was to elevate our laboratory to the same level as multinational companies and grow from a domestic to an international service provider,” said Mr. Missaoui.

Upgrading for Global Standards

To support this transition, CETTEX began investing in advanced textile testing technology tailored to the demands of international brands. The first step included the addition of the ProMace Snag Resistance Tester by James Heal, building on the lab’s existing range of James Heal equipment.

“We wanted instruments that meet international standards and are easy for our technicians to use,” said Madame Imene Slama, Head of R&D and Projects at CETTEX. “Knowing James Heal’s products are made in the UK gives us confidence in the reliability and accuracy of our testing.”

The long-standing relationship with James Heal’s local sales partner, Vibratech, has also played a crucial role in ensuring effective training, seamless equipment integration, and ongoing technical support.

Adapting to Future Challenges

Looking ahead, CETTEX is preparing for upcoming regulatory shifts in its primary export market, the European Union. The EU’s Green Deal 2030 and the Strategy for Sustainable and Circular Textiles will introduce new expectations around eco-labeling, environmental performance, and carbon footprint disclosures.

“These policies will reshape textile production and consumption in Europe, and CETTEX must be ready to help local manufacturers adapt,” said Mr. Missaoui. “We see consumer behavior shifting toward sustainability, and we’re positioning our services to reflect that.”

As CETTEX continues to grow, its mission remains the same: to support innovation, ensure product quality, and elevate Tunisia’s textile sector on the global stage. With strategic partnerships, cutting-edge testing capabilities, and a vision for sustainable growth, CETTEX is weaving the future of textile excellence in North Africa and beyond.
