CEMATEX’s Vision for ITMA Asia + CITME 2024 and Future Exhibitions

In a recent interview, Mr. Alex Zucchi, President of CEMATEX (the Committee of European Textile Machinery Manufacturers), shared valuable insights about the motivations behind organizing exhibitions, particularly focusing on ITMA Asia + CITME 2024 held in Shanghai.

Supporting the Industry Over Profit

Mr. Zucchi emphasized that CEMATEX’s primary goal is to support the textile machinery industry rather than profit from exhibitions. “Unlike private entities that may view organizing exhibitions as a business opportunity, our focus is different. We aim to support our industry and ensure that our members participate in the right exhibitions,” he explained.

He highlighted the proliferation of minor exhibitions, noting that while many organizers are eager to attract participants, the quality and purpose of exhibitions should take precedence over sheer quantity. “It’s essential to focus on higher standards and reduce the number of exhibitions to only the most impactful ones,” he stated.

The Importance of Time in Innovation

Mr. Zucchi also discussed the development cycle of new machinery, which typically spans several years. “Creating new machinery is not a quick process; it takes at least two to three years. This is why major exhibitions like ITMA are held every four years—to provide companies adequate time to innovate and prepare,” he said. He stressed that rushing the process could lead to repetitive showcases rather than genuine innovation.

A Call for Quality Over Quantity

In closing, Mr. Zucchi expressed his belief that the industry should prioritize quality exhibitions that foster real advancements. “While some may see minor exhibitions as a lucrative venture, they often lack substance. Our aim is to elevate the industry through meaningful events that truly represent our collective efforts and innovations,” he concluded.

As the textile machinery sector continues to evolve, Mr. Zucchi’s insights remind us of the importance of strategic planning, quality, and collaboration in shaping a sustainable and innovative future.
