Unifi Launches White Filament Yarn Made from Textile Waste

Unifi, the maker of Repreve recycled performance fibers, has introduced a new white filament yarn made from 100% recycled polyester feedstock, with at least 50% derived from textile waste. This innovative yarn is designed for use in home textiles, such as comforters and pillows, and can be dyed using standard processes.

The new Repreve product offers virgin-quality performance and can be enhanced with Unifi’s advanced technologies, including anti-odor, moisture-wicking, and stretch properties. This launch is powered by Unifi’s proprietary Textile Takeback technology, which supports the recycling of textile waste into high-performance fibers.

The Repreve brand stands out as the only polyester fiber traceable with FiberPrint technology and certified by Unifi’s U-Trust program. Additionally, it holds Oeko-Tex, GRS, and SCS certifications for recycled content, ensuring the sustainability of the product.

“Polyester is the most widely utilized fiber on the planet, and it’s time for transformative change,” said Eddie Ingle, CEO of Unifi Inc. “Textile brands can now create solutions with the entire product life cycle in mind and work towards achieving their 2030 environmentally preferred materials targets. Our goal is to provide the best-in-class sustainable products that eliminate the need for virgin materials and reduce carbon emissions.”

This launch underscores Unifi’s commitment to innovation and sustainability, offering textile brands new ways to reduce their environmental impact while maintaining high-quality product standards.
