ITME Africa and Middle East 2023: Advancing Textile Innovation in Kenya and Beyond

The India International Textile Machinery Exhibition Society (India ITME Society) is preparing for its second venture into Africa with a three-day event set to take place in Kenya.

Scheduled from November 30, 2023, to December 2, 2023, the second edition of ITME Africa and Middle East 2023 will be held at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi.

The primary goal of the exhibition is to showcase the latest innovations in textile machinery and technology, foster business networking, and encourage industry collaborations.

With participants from more than 23 countries worldwide, the event organizers have revealed that over 125 companies will participate, offering them the opportunity to forge new business partnerships, explore emerging opportunities, and engage with the local textile industry to cultivate fresh custom leads.

The inaugural exhibition took place in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in 2019.

Juma Mukhwana, the Principal Secretary in the State Department for Industry, welcomed exhibitors into the country and emphasized the importance of establishing stronger partnerships with participating nations to bolster Kenya’s manufacturing sector. He encouraged Indian partners to consider setting up factories and warehouses in Kenya, in line with Kenya’s vision of reducing imports of textile-related products.

Mukhwana highlighted the favorable investment environment established by the government, which includes duty-free incentives for setting up factories and warehouses. He encouraged potential investors to view Africa’s challenges as investment opportunities with substantial returns.

ITME Africa and Middle East 2023 Textile Innovation in Kenya

Ketan Sanghvi, the Chair of the India ITME Society, sees this once-every-four-year event as a catalyst for modernizing the African Textile Industry and promoting Kenya as a new business destination. The exhibition will facilitate a conducive business environment, promote trade agreements, and support textile industry growth through seminars, panel discussions, technology presentations, and investment seminars.

Kenya aims to leverage the exhibition to strengthen its position as a pioneer in modernizing the textile industry, focusing on advancements in cotton seed and cotton farming technology, engineering machinery, home textile products, and related goods and services. Kenyan participants include entities such as the Export Processing Zones Authority (EPZA), Kenya Investment Authority (KENINVEST), and Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI).

The India ITME Society, a non-profit organization founded in 1980, holds a prominent position in the textile engineering industry and plays a pivotal role in advancing the sector in India.
