Two hundred and seventy five Turkish textile companies are participating in the ongoing Premiere Vision Paris and Texworld Paris international fashion fairs, according to Pinar Tasdelen Engin, president of the Uludag Textile Exporters’ Association (UTIB), who said Turkey needs improvement in technical textiles, promotion and marketing, and branding.
Engin, who heads the Turkish delegation to the fairs, said the Turkish textile and apparel sectors employ nearly a million people and This number reaches 2 million if the sectors such as retail and merchandising, which are integrated to the aforementioned sectors, are included.
In 2018 Turkey’s textile export increased by 4.5 per cent to $8.461 billion compared to the previous year, an UTIB press release quoted Engin as saying. In the same period, apparel export reached $17.642 billion, showing a 3.6 per cent rise.
Turkey. The biggest textile manufacturer in continental Europe, is the seventh biggest cotton producer in the world, he said. It is one of the top three towel suppliers in the world. In 2018, the share of Turkey in global textiles and technical textiles exports stood at nearly 3 per cent and 1.5per cent respectively, he added.
