“each other”: the trends of MUNICH FABRIC START for Autumn.Winter 24/25

From July 18 to 20, 2023, MUNICH FABRIC START in Munich will once again become one of the most important international industry meeting points for the European fashion sector and bring together the who’s who of fashion makers and designers at an early stage to develop their collections for the winter season 2024 / 2025. On 42,500 square meters, everything will revolve around the material, denim and innovation trends for Autumn/Winter 2024/25 in unique trend forums, at the Denim Trade Show BLUEZONE and in the KEYHOUSE Innovation Hub. A look ahead.

Fashion doesn’t come to existence only when the collections are sewn, but much earlier: in the minds of designers, through global trend research and in the collaboration of fashion brands, fashion houses and brands with fabric producers, weavers and trend experts.

Fabric trade shows are the most concentrated form of this creative exchange. Only there, fashion designers and creators can gain a comprehensive overview of the coming trends – and the possibilities of transforming them into their individual collections – in a short time and on limited space. One of Europe’s leading fabric trade shows, MUNICH FABRIC START, has earned its standing with its focus on precisely this function – the bringing together of trends presented in this form in a uniquely condensed and profoundly researched manner with an exhibitor portfolio of 1,100 collections that comprehensively reflects the production market in all fashion categories – and it is no longer possible to imagine the fashion community’s calendar without it.

This year, from July 18 to 20 2023, MUNICH FABRIC START will be held for the first time at a much earlier summer date than in the past – and will thus once again increase its relevance as a venue for early trend research.

MFS will live up to these expectations by focusing on the importance of personal contact under the motto “each other”. It is about exchange, being there for each other, listening attentively and looking closely – to take courage, to recognize and use one’s own scope for action. To follow one important goal: to create something beautiful with fashion and to make a contribution to our humanity.

Therefore, MFS brings together international fabric and fashion experts in Munich for trend research, sourcing, information and intensive exchange. This summer, as an important source of inspiration for colour trends and material innovations, MFS will again provide extensive information in the form of various trend directions about what will be seen in the fashion stores in the Autumn.Winter 24/25 season.

Here is an initial outlook on the key aesthetic trends for the winter season 2024 / 2025 developed exclusively by MUNICH FABRIC START:

Highland Hybrids – a patchwork of nature, tradition and performance

Best of two worlds: Highland Hybrids combines the archaic longing for nature and originality, forests and meadows with the aesthetics of modern technologies that enable us to be independent and self-determined. Performance while hiking, camping and on the way to the office – Highland Hybrids combines natural space and urbanity to an innovative style of adventure, freedom and mindfulness. The fabrics are both robust and stylish and always perfectly balanced on the line between multifunctionality and fashion.

Mystic Beings – the fantasy world of elves, heroes, monsters and robots

A new level of creativity? The trend theme Mystic Beings oscillates between shadow and light, in a world full of illusions and secrets. Inspired by virtual design, Artificial Reality, gaming and rendering, the focus lies on opulent light and glitter elements, surrounded by powerful shapes and sumptuous materials such as fake fur. They enable looks that draw on the mystical worlds of elves, heroes, monsters and robots, while walking the cutting edge between elegance and subtle provocation, full of self-expression and surreal atmosphere.

System Cringe – a movement that calls for action

Actively doing something, initiating new concepts, questioning the prevailing system. That’s what System Cringe is all about – and not with a negative mood, but accompanied by joy and confidence, with positive vibes and with openness to the future, clarity and humor. Characterized by positivism and motivation, cross-cultural and cross-generational, new laws and rain are created. The triad of protecting the environment, responsible use of resources and mindful coexistence is paramount, which is reflected in styles that are characterized by upcycling and second hand.

Kinky Classics – provocative extroverts with style

Kinky Classics tempt designers to create extroverted, self-confident, progressive, but also playful and adventurous designs. Classic garments and fabrics are put in a new light. Everything revolves around aesthetic provocation – be it through unusual shapes, broad shoulders, deep cuts, slits or enveloping widths in morning coat style. In addition, transparent and asymmetrical, unfinished-looking elements that provide more sensuality – sexyness is key.

Past forward – a retro-futuristic angle of view

An aesthetic journey back in time to the sixties and seventies. Echoes and inspirations come from a retrofuturistic style, often with organic shapes and lines. The spirit of discovery and the visions of the zeitgeist of that time are combined with today’s technologies such as innovative production processes and 3D printing. Rethinking is the focus, it’s about creating something meaningful, beautiful and better. It’s about quality, modularity and longevity so that fashion can stand the test of time, remain changeable and relevant for the future.

Munich – the place to be

The supporting program of MUNICH FABRIC START combines competence and professionalism, inspiration and innovation: from its unique trend forums to the DMI Fashion Day, which will take place on 17 July 2023, the day before MFS, as well as the inspiration, orientation and research on offer at the Denim

Trade Show

BLUEZONE and the sustainable-technological innovation trends in KEYHOUSE, to exciting panels and keynotes, such as from Pantone and Peclers Paris – MFS will become the hub for the entire industry and attract management, product management, design and purchasing to Munich.
