The Effect of Turkish TV Series and Film Production on the Expansion of Turkish Apparel Export

Turkish movies and TV  Series have substantially increased in size, quantity, calibre, and content during the past ten years. Movies and TV  Series have spread beyond Turkey’s borders and are available everywhere. The best home viewing services worldwide, like Disney, Netflix, and others, also broadcast them.

Acun Ilıcalı, a well-known Turkish businessman, introduced Exxen, a home television Platform in Turkey comparable to Netflix. this Turkish famous entreprnure has stated that he wants to promote and spread as many Turkish movies and TV  Series as possible throughout the world. After spending years watching foreign films with Turkish subtitles, the speaker continues, “I would like for the entire world to watch Turkish series with English subtitles.”

A significant accomplishment for Turkey is the export of Turkish series and movies in 2023, which is predicted to exceed $1 billion. Turkey is currently the world’s second-best exporter of tv series, behind the United States, with its products going to more than 150 countries.  France received the first Turkish series in 1981.

But what impact does Turkey’s increasing export of series and movies have on other industries?

One could argue that Turkish television series showcase Turkey’s beauty and promise, particularly in Istanbul. In Turkish movies and television shows, you probably have noticed that most of them take place in stunning locations with villas on the Bosphorus Strait, luxury automobiles, and, of course, very trendy actors and actresses wearing the most fashionable clothing in the world.

As a result of the development of the Turkish film industry, several industries have benefited, including tourism, restaurants, Turkish cuisine, clothing and apparel, the rise in global interest in learning Turkish, real estate sales, international student recruitment, and even Turkish carpets and home furnishings.

For example, the Chukur TV series is one of the most popular modern Turkish series and is shown in more than 100 different countries. Many international visitors who watch this series have come to Istanbul’s ancient Balat neighbourhood, where a portion of the series is filmed, to see the location and take photos as memories.

Due to this, Turkish businesses now have a fantastic opportunity to marketing and advertise their goods. Similar to Hollywood, companies like Coca-Cola and Starbucks also use famous TV series for advertising to viewers indirectly. Turkish series have now provided this possibility for well-known Turkish brands, including famous clothing and apparel brands.

Turkish Actors Serving As Global Live Models for the Fashion Industry in Turkey

In most Turkish series, you can watch a fashion show where well-known Turkish actors and actresses display a style of dressing that is both contemporary and in keeping with the cultures, customs, and conventions of the nations across the world that purchase Turkish films.

One of the main draws for viewers is the use of fresh and appealing color choices and permutations in the characters’ clothing. It’s noteworthy to note that each series ends with adverts for apparel manufacturers. Following each episode’s airing, the actors post on their Instagram accounts the name, model, and brand of the clothing they wore in that specific episode so that anyone interested in buying it can do so at local shops or online.

Additionally, Turkish stars organize several tours with the production team and visit their fans in the target countries before and after each television series premiere. In reality, they are stylish and well-known models and living, moving mannequins to demonstrate the influence of apparel brands and designers worldwide.

In addition to the series’ specific and fluid themes, the actors’ endearing acting in fashionable and beautiful clothing and the colorful and beautiful scenes of Istanbul, a great and beautiful place, create a tremendous impression on the viewer. As if he also likes to visit Istanbul once, eat in fashionable restaurants and cafes, walk the Bosphorus bridge, and leave shopping malls with lots of clothes in his bags.

One of the critical pillars of Turkish TV Series is clothing design. Therefore, in most of these programs, a skilled and experienced team of costume designers and major apparel sponsoring companies are in charge of this activity. The quantity of lengthy episodes in Turkish series is another factor supporting the significance of design and the skilled team of actors’ clothing.

Since some of these shows have been running for even years, the dress should be physically appealing and unique and in keeping with the trends and season. It is why creators of well-known Turkish television series should always have an influential and famous apparel brand beside them.

Intriguingly, the Turkish apparel company LC Waikiki has created 960 stores in over 46 countries using the same branding as the Turkish film and television industries. The majority of these countries are also strong followers of Turkish serials.

The following list includes some of the series that the LC Waikiki brand has sponsored:

Fatmagül ün Suçu Ne
Aşk_ı Memnu
Bitmeyen Şarkı
Kuzey Guney
20 Dakika
Küçük Ağa
Sen Anlat Karadeniz
Çarpışma
Şahin Tepesi
Her Yerde Sen
Mucize Doktor

Why are Turkish TV series Popular?

The structure of the Turkish government, which has Islamic leanings, heavily regulates the content of Turkish movies. Movies and TV series with intensely violent scenes, sexual encounters, homosexual relationships, drinking, and other locations of this nature are not allowed to air on Turkish TV. The creators of films and television shows must follow these guidelines when creating their respective works.

It has led to the Turkish series being enjoyed by a wider variety of people from all socioeconomic classes and is simple to play in the family or public. It is beneficial

to enter significant markets like the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and South American film and television series industries, which continue to uphold the social norms and structures of their traditional style and environment.
