DESCATUK- a DIPP (Govt. of India) recognised B2B social impact start-up, has commercially launched Wool-NNF, LIVA –NNF yarn and fabrics in a virtual event on Sunday Dec 20, was attended by close to 300 fashion textile professionals and academia from premier fashion institutes, and sustainable fashion platforms from India and abroad.
NNF is claimed to be the most sustainable fibre on the earth developed by DESCATUK from a perennial grass grows on rained without fertiliser and pesticides at high altitude regions of north India.
It is a natural hollow fibre and fabrics made with this yarn, are lighter, warm in winter and cool in summer.
DESCATUK – Dev Ethical Sustainable Crafts & Textiles is one of the innovators of Fashion-for-Good, South Asia Innovation Program, incubated at IIT Mandi Catalyst, based in Dehradun Uttarakhand. It is working for supporting the livelihood of the local community using locally available resources and skills in rural hill villages of Uttarakhand. Today, the company is piloting more 10 fashion brands, both national and international for the devolvement of NNF fabrics and yarns.
“LIVA NNF yarn is co-created in association with Birla Cellulose with 65% LIVA and 35% NNF fibre. LIVA is a RCS certified recycled viscose fiber responsibly manufactured by Birla Cellulose with 20% pre-consumer waste.
LICA is used with NNF to increase the circularity of the value chain. NNF wool yarn is 55% NNF and 45% Harshil wool from the villages of Gangotri- the origin of Ganga river in the Uttarakahsi districts of Uttarakhand India to increase social impact” as told by Mr. K D Sharma CEO and Cofounder DESCATUK.
There were many other eminent speakers in the event. Mr. Manohar Samual, sustainability advisor from Grasim Industries- An Aditya Birla Company has evaluated NNF on the 5 principles of the sustainability and declared that NNF as best fit in the event. Saurabh Mittal mentor, leadership coach and advisor to IIT Mandi catalyst opened the event with the start-up journey of DESCATUK and believes in the solid foundation of DESCATUK will lead to great future.
Ms Pooja Phalak Associate from NIFT Mumbai has given a detailed presentation for the properties and uses of 4Nm NNF wool, 6 Ne LIVA NNF and 12 Ne LIVA NNF yarn. Ms Tushita Verma Associate, NIFT Mumbai presented fabrics developed with these yarn in combination of linen and cotton.
Mr Pradeep Kumar Director WFB Braied Company Private Limited shared his experiences of working with Wool NNF Linen fabrics in his company. Mrs. Vishakha Karnad, Associate Professor of Fashion Designing from Nirmla Niketan College of Home Science explained opportunities for the fashion designers in new NNF value chain.
Anuj Sharma, Founder of Alsisar Impact and the first investor in DESCATUK elaborated the investment opportunities in DESCATUK in this tough recession market. The seminar was perfectly coordinated by the never to say No girl, Ms. Amruta Shroff at DESACTUK.
