Texworld USA & Apparel Sourcing USA

Texworld USA, which ran alongside Apparel Sourcing USA at New York City’s Javits Convention Center from 22th to 24th July, was all about sustainability this season. Record visitor numbers confirmed that sustainability is an ongoing and relevant issue for the textile and fashion industry.

Organisers and exhibitors alike showed their environmental aware and forward-thinking sides at Texworld USA, which took place together with Apparel Sourcing USA at the Javits Convention Center in New York City from 22th to 24th July. “Sustainability is currently the most relevant, but also most complicated subject within the textile and fashion industry. […] Our show strives to provide new solutions that designers and industry experts can work with in the future”, said Jennifer Bacon, Show Director Fashion & Apparel. A record-breaking 6,400 visitors attended Texworld USA this season, roughly one-third more than the last edition, not least attracted by the red-hot issue of sustainability.

The number of eco-friendly producing exhibitors showing at Texworld USA tripled from earlier editions. The “Resource Row” area allowed visitors to meet textile recycling companies and service companies that focus on socially responsible and environmentally aware manufacturing. In addition, carpeting on the exhibition space was reduced by 33% and approximately 90% of signage was recyclable. The trade show also strengthened its commitment to sustainability by offering recycled bags made by Texworld USA, in cooperation with upcycling project Throw, from vinyl banners and promotional material used at earlier trade shows. There was also a great response to the Fashionsustain conference, which took place on the first day of the trade show, putting the spotlight on innovative circularity, traceability and sustainability solutions.

The Lenzing pavilion with 16 exhibitors presenting sustainable fibres from various of the group’s product categories showed what solutions of the kind can look like. The seminar series, organised by Lenzing Fibres, and the Textile Talks included lectures and discussions on various issues from upcycling and sourcing to future trends. The programme was rounded off by the Local Loft, which pointed out possibilities of sourcing locally, as well as creative trend forums.
