Texworld USA 2019 to begin on 22 July!

Focus on sustainability in fashion

Fashion sustainability is what Texworld USA 2019 is going to focus at!

The much-awaited International Trade Fair for Clothing and Textile Industry, is all set to roll out its carpet with Fashionsustain, a one-day conference that focuses on the current issues on sustainability in the fashion industry.

Circularity and traceability will be another area of focus at the show, which will be held on 22 July at New York’s Javits Convention Center.

As always, bigwigs will be there! Leading industry professionals from companies like Walmart, PVH Corp and Athleta will be a part of the 3-day event discussing ways to make fashion more sustainable.

A talk entitled ‘Where Are We Going? The Future of Sustainability in the Fashion Industry’ will be addressed by the keynote speakers, Liz Hershfield, head of product development, production and sustainability, as well as digital consumer brand Incubation at Walmart e-commerce.

The show includes two panels, including ‘Transparency and Traceability: Challenges Facing Major Brands’ and ‘Discussing Circular Solutions’. The first panel will be moderated by Glasgow Caledonian University’s Director of Strategy and Integrated Partnerships, Maggie Kervick and will feature PVH Corp’s Louise Claughton, Athleta’s Leslie Ferrick, Juliette Barr of Sourcemap Inc. and UN Consultant Karen Newman.

The second panel will be moderated by Fabrikology International founder Karla Magruder. The panelists include Tricia Carey, Director of Global Business Development for Denim at Lenzing Fibers; Scott Echols, Program Director at the ZDHC Foundation; and Michele Zollinger, Sustainability Consultant at Quantis International.

The show, organised by Messe Frankfurt, will wrap up with the closing remarks by the show director and Director of Marketing, Thimo Schwenzfeier.

Finally, the attendees will be offered a tour to the show floor where sustainable exhibitors will be showcasing their innovations in over 16 different product categories. The exhibitors will be from International markets like Portugal, Korea, Taiwan, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Nepal, among others.

“We’re very excited to have Fashionsustain as a part of this year’s show. Sustainability isn’t just a buzzword anymore. It’s a real issue that consumers are looking for answers to and companies need to adapt. We’re honoured to host the platform that will harness and educate our attendees on patterns of consumption and use, and how to move forward, and adopt better practices,” said Jennifer Bacon, Show Director, Texworld USA and Apparel Sourcing USA in a release.

Furthermore, the show will also be offering its ever-popular Textile Talks and a series of seminars on topics ranging from upcoming trends, sourcing in Africa and organic textile certification.
